Mechron manufactures auxiliary power units (APU's) designed for underhood use in combat vehicles. The APU supplies power to the combat vehicle when stationary, allowing the main engine to be turned off. This greatly reduces the fuel consumption and wear of idling the vehicle's diesel engine. It also reduces detectability during combat operations. This APU is designed to withstand the harsh environment of underhood installation, including shock, vibration, operation at angles up to 45° and extreme temperature ranges from -50°C to +100°C. APU's can be equipped with software controls to various standards, including CANBUS SAE J1939.
